CCTV (Closed Circuit Television)

CCTV is short for the term Closed Circuit Television. Essentially this means that a camera supervises a building or structure. Cameras are a very helpful tool and thwarting vandalism and thefts and are widely used around the world to protect the most prominent buildings in the world.

CCTV is also referred to as surveillance cameras in which they watch over a specific area. Some cameras are also used in parking lots to ensure the safety of workers and to catch would be thieves from stealing cars. Although effective they cannot prevent all thefts from occurring, as it requires an attentive operator to follow would be thieves closely.

The first ever CCTV to ever be used was back in 1942 in which they were used in Germany to monitor the launch of the V2 rockets. This would enable the Germans to watch over any malfunctions.

CCTV later expanded to banks and supermarkets to help prevent people from stealing. The first ever place to use CCTV was in King’s Lynn located in the United Kingdom. Now where there are large stores and banks CCTV has become commonplace and even some cities around the world use CCTV to monitor popular transit areas to thwart terrorism as well as street crime.
